A metadance is directly related to metafiction or metatheater, literature or theatre that comments on its own conventions in order to show the possibilities of society. The two women attempt to show their culture, their experiences in other cultures, the cultures of their youth, and cultures that exist in their dreams.
Sasha and Deborah will be in residence at Stony Brook University's Center for Dance, Movement and Somatic Learning this March.Aesthetics are everything is a new solo choreographed and performed by Sasha Welsh.
Aesthetics are everything explores conventions of display and framing from dance and visual art to create new ways of fragmenting, containing, and presenting the dancing body. By both formalizing intimate and personal subject matter, and personalizing formal structures, Welsh is commenting on the body and the self as content for performance.
